REPORT ON OLD AGE HOME VISIT

The Health and Social Welfare Committee and the Health Education Committee of the Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) 2025–2026 organized an Old Age Home visit on 15th December 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Hosabelaku Seva Trust, Manikumeri, Kowdoor Village, Bailur, Karkala Taluk, Udupi District.
The programme commenced with a prayer song, setting a warm and positive tone for the interaction. This was followed by various recreational and therapeutic activities, including games, songs, dance, and range-of-motion (ROM) exercises conducted with music, with active guidance and participation from the nursing students. Alongside these activities, basic health assessments such as blood pressure and random blood glucose (GRBS) were carried out for the inmates. Health education sessions on “Dementia” and “Fall Prevention” were delivered by the students, aiming to enhance awareness and promote safe practices among the elderly residents.
Mrs. Canica from Hosabelaku Seva Trust shared a brief history of the organization, which was established in 2014 by her mother. She spoke about her experiences in serving elderly individuals who had been left alone and highlighted the organization’s commitment to compassionate care. She informed that the trust currently houses 207 inmates, including a few bedridden residents, and elaborated on the comprehensive care provided, treating each resident as a family member. She encouraged the students to continue engaging in social service activities and supporting vulnerable populations.
The programme concluded with the distribution of groceries to the residents, followed by expressions of gratitude from the inmates of the old age home. A formal vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Jenisha Dsouza, 5th Semester B.Sc. Nursing student. A total of 15 B.Sc. Nursing students and 3 faculty members participated in this visit.
