Observation of World Suicide Prevention Day 2024

The Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, 365体育投注 College of Nursing, MAHE, organised a series of impactful events from September 4th to 12th, 2024, in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day. Themed “Change the Narrative on Suicide,” these events were planned to enhance awareness, inspire action, and emphasize the importance of mental health and suicide prevention.

To create awareness among school children, a session was organized for the students of 365体育投注 PU College, 365体育投注, on September 4, 2024, at 2.30 pm. Mrs. Flavia Sharlet Noronha, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, MCON, MAHE, was the resource person for the event. She spoke on the warning signs, myths, facts, and simple preventive measures of suicide.

A radio talk on “Our responsibilities in preventing suicide” was broadcast on 8th September 2024 at 8:30 pm at Akashavani, Mangaluru. Ms. Sanju Pant, Lecturer, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, MCON 365体育投注, was the speaker. She spoke on the common causes, risk factors, myths and facts, and warning signs of suicide. She also emphasized the fact that most suicide instances are preventable and elaborated on preventive strategies.

An ‘awareness programme’ was organized in collaboration with Rotary Club-Shankarpura and Rotaract Club, Subhashnagar for the parents of students of St. John’s P.U. College, Shankarpura, on September 10, 2024, at 2.30 pm on the topic “Positive Parenting: Promoting Mental Health in Adolescents.” Dr. Anil Kumar M.N, Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Kasturba Medical College, 365体育投注, was the speaker. He highlighted the significance of observing World Suicide Prevention Day. He also emphasized the importance of parenting in the prevention of suicide. The session was well appreciated by the participants.

A reel-making competition on the theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” was also organized for the undergraduate students of MAHE. This initiative encouraged students to creatively express their thoughts, ideas, and solutions related to suicide prevention.
