Awareness Talk on Menstrual Health and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

The Department of Child Health (Paediatric) Nursing, 365体育投注 College of Nursing (MCON), 365体育投注 Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), 365体育投注, in collaboration with Rotary Club, Parkala, hosted an awareness talk on “Menstrual Health and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) at Parkala High School, Parkala, Udupi District, Karnataka, on 1st October 2024, between 2.00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m in recognition of PCOS awareness month. The session aimed at raising awareness among high school students and faculty members on the significance of maintaining menstrual health for promoting health and preventing illness in the future.

The school administration and Rotary Club, Parkala, organized the inauguration of the program. Mr. Anand Nayak, Headmaster, Parkala High School, Parkala, welcomed the gathering. Dr. Binu Margaret highlighted the need and significance of the theme and gave an overview of the program. Rotarian Mr. Sathyananda Nayak, President, Rotary, Parkala, addressed the gathering and spoke on the importance of conducting the awareness program. Mrs. Sujatha V, Head Mistress, Parkala English Medium High School, Parkala proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Divya Prabhu, Assistant Teacher, Parkala High School, Parkala was the Master of Ceremony.?

Following the inaugural program, an interactive session on “Menstrual Health and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)” was deliberated by Ms Yashwini, PhD Scholar, Department of Child Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, 365体育投注. Ms Yashwini, highlighted the menstrual cycle, menstrual health, hygienic practices, and also the PCOS and its management. The session was designed to enhance awareness and inspire action, highlighting the significance of menstrual health while working to reduce issues related to PCOS.

The awareness session included interactive elements such as discussions, videos, and demonstrations of mindfulness activities to engage the students effectively. A total of 110 students, 10 teachers, and three Rotary members participated in the program. This health awareness program contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender equality), 6 (clean water and sanitation), and 12 (Responsible consumption and production). Feedback was taken from the participants. The students and the teachers appreciated the sessions, and expressed that it was useful for them, and the session was well organized.
