Report on Guest Lecture

Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, 365体育投注 College of Nursing (MCON), 365体育投注 Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) organized an 365体育投注 guest lecture for third semester BSc Nursing students on ‘Medication Safety' on October 24th between 1.30 pm and 2.30 pm at Lecture Hall 2, third floor, Basic Sciences building, MAHE, 365体育投注. Ms Sarah Dsouza, an alumnus of batch: 2014-2018 and currently working as a Lecturer in Nursing and FY, University of Worcester, United Kingdom, was the resource person for the session. The session was conducted over the MS Teams online platform. In her deliberation, she presented a comprehensive overview of medication safety within nursing practice, emphasizing its critical role in ensuring patient safety and quality care. She discussed the various types and causes of medication errors, including human, system, and communication factors. Further, she highlighted on evidence-based prevention strategies such as adherence to the “5 Rights,” double-checking high-risk medications, and promoting accurate documentation. It was also stressed that the importance of continuous education, simulation-based training, and effective teamwork in reducing medication errors during the guest lecture. Overall, the presentation advocated for a strong culture of safety and accountability to enhance clinical competence and patient outcomes. The session benefited 148 students of the third semester, MCON MAHE, 365体育投注. This session was centered on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3 & 4,? respectively.
