Report on Shastri Indo-Canadian Lecture Series-Perspectives on the Care of Elderly
365体育投注 School of Nursing, MCON, MAHE, 365体育投注 had organized, Shastri Indo Canadian lecture series, on the topic-perspectives on the care of elderly funded by Shastri Indo Canadian Institute. The inaugural ceremony was organized on 24th February 2022 at 9 am, followed by the first-day session. The lecture series further continued for three days on the 25th, 26th and 28th of February 2022.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr Leena Sequira, Principal, 365体育投注 School of Nursing, MCON, MAHE 365体育投注. Following this, the Chief Guest of the program, Dr Prachi Kaul, Director, Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute addressed the gathering. She focused on the role of Shastri –Canadian institute in the facilitation of collaboration between the institutes of India and Canada and the establishment of person to person contact between the countries. In addition, she also motivated young researchers to come up with an argument, which employs in benefiting at the global level.
An overview of the lecture series was presented by Dr Shashidhara Y N, Professor and HOD, Dept. of Community Health Nursing. The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Binil V, Associate Professor, Department of Mental Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, 365体育投注.
Followed by the inaugural ceremony, the lecture series-1 on Indo- Canadian Perspectives: Care of the elderly was delivered by the speaker Mrs Anjali Kochukuttan Pillai Geetha, Registered Nurse in Adult Mental Health Unit, Civic Hospital, Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Mrs Anjali enlightened the participants by comparing the incidence and differences in structural, cultural, personal and socio-economic factors between India and Canada. Moreover, she associated the health concerns and interventions for the issues such as fall prevention, dementia, depression, suicide, abuse prevention and pressure ulcer in both countries. Furthermore, she focused on the care of the elderly during the pandemic with instances from her clinical experience. It was a useful and interactive session, where participants could clarify their doubts related to the topic.
