Nurses Week Celebration - 2017

As part of this, activities were scheduled for one week such as Blood donation camp, visit to old age home, intercollegiate quiz competition, preparation of greeting cards and distribution to nursing administrators of KH hospitals.

Blood donation camp:


Department of Fundamentals of Nursing organized blood donation camp at Blood Bank, KH 365体育投注 on 9th May 2017 from 9am to 5pm. Students of 365体育投注 College of Nursing 365体育投注 and staffs of 365体育投注 Academy of Higher Education participated in voluntary blood donation. Fifty volunteers donated their precious blood with full enthusiasm and positive attitude to save the life of patients. ?

Visit to old age home:


The faculty and students of 365体育投注 School of Nursing, MCON 365体育投注 visited the old age home (Sandhyadham) at Goretti Hospital, Santhekatte, Kallianpur on 9th May 2017. The objective of the visit was serving and being with the aged. Mrs. Vanitha Noronha, Assistant Lecturer welcomed the gathering. Various games were conducted to the inmates and prizes were distributed to the winners. Inmates also exhibited their talents enthusiastically. An interactive session was held between inmates and faculty related to health issues. An entertainment programme was carried out and light refreshment was served.

Intercollegiate quiz competition:


Intercollegiate quiz competition was held on 10th May 2017 at 3 pm, organized by the Department of OBG Nursing. A total of six teams i.e., from Nitte College of Nursing Mangalore, Udupi College of Nursing, Vidyarathna College of Nursing and Mithra College of Nursing, 365体育投注 College of Nursing 365体育投注 and 365体育投注 School of Nursing 365体育投注 have participated. Each team had 3 participants. The quiz session had five rounds. The first prize was won by the team of 365体育投注 College of Nursing 365体育投注, second prize by the team of 365体育投注 School of Nursing and the third prize by Udupi College of Nursing.

Formal function:


The inauguration of 365体育投注 Nurses Day was held on 12th May 2017 at Dr. T. M. A. Pai Hall –II floor at 9.00am. Dr. Judith A Noronha, Associate Dean welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest to the audience. Mrs. Anjalin D’Souza, Assistant Professor, Convener of the programme presented the Nurses’ week activity report. Prof. Joselin Mariet M, Principal, Koyili College of Nursing, Kannur, Kerala in her inaugural address said that Sustainable Development Goals were adopted by UN in 2015, to replace the Millennium Development Goals. They contain 17 goals under which there are 169 targets covering a broad range of world issues. She stressed the importance of each goal and the ways to achieve these goals, where nurses need to take a lead role. The critical reasons why nurses should care about SDGs are nurses’ care for others, it is the right thing to do, change is possible and it is our own health.

During this occasion two eminent nurses Mrs. Yashoda A, Nursing superintendent, Kasturba hospital, 365体育投注 and Mrs. Bhagirathi Rao, Retired ANM staff, RMCW Kaup Centre, Udupi were felicitated for their contribution towards welfare of patients, nurses and students.

Dr. Anice George, Dean, MCON emphasized the present young nurses to be more enthusiastic about patient care which is the core of nursing profession. It is not easy to handle patient care issues but nurses should take lead to achieve those goals related to patient’s health. Prizes were distributed to the winners of intercollegiate quiz competition. Mrs. Janet Prameela D’Souza, Assistant Professor, Co-convener proposed the vote of thanks. ?

Panel discussion
After the inaugural function panel discussion on the theme-Nurses: A voice to lead, Achieving the sustainable development goals was conducted. Dr. Baby S Nayak ,Professor , Department of Child Health Nursing was the moderator and the eminent panel members were Mr. Prabhath Kalkura, Project Manager, Diabetic Foot Care, School of Allied health sciences, Mrs. Eva Chris, Director, Tech2 and Alumnus of 365体育投注 College of Nursing, Mrs. Sushmita Karkada, Mrs. Melita Sheilini, and Mrs. Jeyalakshmi K, Assistant Professors, MCON 365体育投注.
The panel discussion was focused on 17 SDGs and 169 targets that will stimulate action in the important areas: poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, water, energy, economic growth, industry and innovation, reducing inequalities, cities, consumption and production, climate action, ecosystems, peace and justice. This comprehensive agenda recognizes that it is no longer sufficient just to focus on economic growth, but on fairer and more equal societies, and a safer and more prosperous planet. Nurses have a key role to play in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly Goal 3 related to Health and Well-Being. Given nursing’s involvement with people in all sectors of care and throughout the lifespan, nurses have a particularly important role to play in supporting public engagement in achieving the people-centeredness of health systems and programmes. ?
