Report on Guest Lecture: “Dialysis in the Critically Ill Patients”

The Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, 365体育投注 College of Nursing, organized a guest lecture on the topic “Dialysis in the Critically Ill Patients” as part of its academic enrichment initiatives. The session, conducted in webinar mode via MS Teams on 3rd July 2025, was open to M.Sc. Nursing and NPCC students from across India.
Ms. Sweekrity Benjamin delivered the welcome address and introduced the speaker, Dr. Shankar Kumar Chatterjee, highlighting his extensive clinical expertise and significant contributions in the field of dialysis and vascular access.
Highlights of the Session
Dr. Chatterjee delivered a highly informative session covering:
· Overview of acute kidney injury (AKI) in critical care
· RRT hardware including vascular access catheters and dialyzers
· Indications for initiating renal replacement therapy (RRT) in critically ill patients
· Modalities such as Intermittent Hemodialysis, SLED (Slow Low Efficiency Dialysis), and various forms of CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
The lecture was well-structured and clinically relevant, drawing appreciation from the attendees for its clarity and practical insights. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where participants actively engaged and clarified their doubts.
